ABOUT THE BLOKS

BB Bloks was created one day when Aaron, climber and carpenter, was working in his shop in Minneapolis. A friend asked him to make a little finger trainer that could be thrown in his carry-on luggage for a climbing trip. Woodcraft is Aaron’s trade and so he ended working all evening to come up with a solid, travel size crimp trainer. From there, BB Bloks moved forward with a some experimentation and creativity.

BB Bloks makes sure to not take itself too seriously. In a climbing world where sending is very serious, we thought BB Bloks could keep things light. We all hate a high gravity day. BB Bloks is for anyone who has a love for climbing in all its forms. In the least, we hope you appreciate the handcraft and considerate, woodgrain detail found in these lil bloks and the community behind it.

Maker & Founder

Aaron Fitch

Aaron is a 3rd generation carpenter who learned to love trees, and their variety of material uses, on slow walks through the woods with his Grandpa as a child.  As a youth he began his experiments with wood by making bows and arrows out of sassafras saplings.  Over the years he continued to develop his relationship with woodworking through apprenticeships with his Grandpa and Uncle, both life long carpenters.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he was drawn back into the hands-on world of woodworking where he has worked for the past 13 years.  Well into his carpentry career he fell in love with the world of pebble wrestling (bouldering) and started to explore ways the two passions of wood working and climbing might overlap.  Aaron experimented with climbing hold fabrication for a season as well as building custom home climbing walls.  Upon discovering that he and all of his friends at the climbing gym definitely weren’t crimping hard enough he made it his mission to design a portable, wooden training device to help foster a local culture of knuckle busting crimp power.
